๐Ÿšจ BREAKING: 'Mary Was Like a Daughter to Me' โ€” David Umahi Finally Breaks Silence on Death of Staff Member Amid Public Outcry (Details)

Following widespread calls for a thorough investigation into the death of Mary Habila, Minister of Works David Umahi has publicly addressed the incident for the first time, giving his own account of what happened.

According to Umahi:

"The lady in question was like a daughter to me. She had stayed with me for three years. She was a staff member of the Federal Medical University. She was a nurse and not a physiotherapist. And her family and my family are like one family."

He also disclosed that Mary had been receiving medical treatment at the Turkish Hospital, with the expenses allegedly covered by him.

"She has her medical records in Turkish Hospital, being paid by us. The last one was on the 5th of April, and it cost me โ‚ฆ2.2 million. The records are there. I paid โ‚ฆ2.2 million."

Speaking further, Umahi claimed Mary had spoken with her boyfriend shortly before her death.

"She spoke to her boyfriend at the hour of her death and complained that she was bleeding from the nose. The boyfriend said, 'No, you have to report it.' She said it had stopped. The boyfriend then said, 'Listen, I will not continue this conversation since you are bleeding. It will increase the bleeding.'

"She told the boyfriend, 'Don't cut the call.' The boyfriend cut the call. Three minutes later, the boyfriend called again. She was not responding."

Expressing grief over the incident, the minister added:

"It is very painful to me that the girl passed on. It is very difficult to replace her. She was one of my best workers."

The case has generated nationwide attention, with many Nigerians continuing to demand a transparent and independent investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding Mary Habila's death.

Mathew Clinton: The story of the late Mary's family saying they aren't interested in carrying out autopsy is suspicious
Justice Amendu Iredia: There should be a thorough independent investigation on this matter. We have lost trust in our security outfits. When our mumu go do?
Ikechukwu: Without autopsy the story is not complete , at least people should know what happened so to learn from it.
