🚨 THEY'RE COMING FOR OUR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION AGAIN. 🚨
Just when parents were still recovering from the cost of books, uniforms, and lesson fees, a new proposal dropped: INCREASE the registration fees for WAEC and NECO.
Yes , the same exams every Nigerian child MUST write to have any hope of a future.
Let me break down what this really means 👇
📌 A mother selling tomatoes in the market will now have to choose between restocking her stall and registering her daughter for SSCE.
📌 A father earning minimum wage after rent, after transport, after food that shrinks every single week must now find extra thousands for an exam his son cannot avoid.
📌 A brilliant child in a village somewhere may sit at home next May/June. Not because he failed. Because his parents couldn't afford the FORM.
And here's the thing: this did not happen quietly. The moment the proposal surfaced, the entire country erupted.
Parents cried out. Labour groups pushed back. Education stakeholders warned of the consequences. Civil society organisations raised the alarm.
And of course opposition politicians grabbed their microphones. Suddenly everybody "cares about the masses." Suddenly everybody remembers education matters. 😒
But let me ask the questions nobody is answering:
❓ Why is it always the poor man's pocket that balances the budget?
❓ What happens to the thousands of children who will simply NOT register? Do they just join the growing army of out-of-school children?
❓ Is education now a luxury item in this country something only the rich can afford to give their children?
A child who cannot afford to write WAEC today becomes an adult this country failed tomorrow.
We keep saying "education is the best legacy." But a legacy nobody can afford to claim is not a legacy it's a decoration. 💔
This is bigger than party politics. It's bigger than WAEC or NECO. It's about whether the children of the poor still have a ladder to climb or whether that ladder has been quietly pulled up.
