During a recent terrorist attack in Plateau State, soldiers stationed just a short distance away reportedly did not arrive until after 22 people, including a pastor, had been killed.

Residents say they called for help as soon as the attack began, but were told by the commander of the STF Operation Enduring Peace that there was no fuel for the vehicles. Yet according to those accounts, security personnel arrived with trucks and motorcycles only after the attackers had already left.

What do we call this?
For years, many communities in Nigeria's Middle Belt, most of them predominantly Christian, have said they have been living under the constant threat of violent attacks. These incidents are often described as herder farmer clashes, but many residents argue that this label does not reflect what they have experienced.
