IDENTITY CRISIS

Children admire adulthood. No, actually desire it. And take steps to look it.
Many (probably most) of us as children did many things to look grown up. We wore mummy/daddy's shoes, dresses, eyeglasses, etc. enjoying the show.

Soon we slipped into the teenage phase. The sprightly steps, the deep voice (for the boys), the two little outgrowths on the chest (for the girls) confirmed our grand entry into adulthood. What did the adults know or do that we didn't, even better? We had become the giant Anakites looking down at the locusts that every other person not in our group was. Parental wisdom had become old school. 'We're now adults and deserve our freedom for God's sake!' (Oh yeah. Sometimes I wait for when our children bill us. I cheekily remind them that adults should be able to fend for themselves🤓).

But the clock never stops ticking. As nature takes its toll the desired becomes the despised. That bulge or wrinkle must be removed or at least masked. The gray up there must be dyed black. Unlike before age is no longer announced like a coveted prize at birthdays. It's now a well-guarded state secret. For the ladies it freezes to attention at some point or in fact begins reverse counting!😂 Youthfulness is once again desired. But the biological clock ticks on nevertheless.

Bottom line, whatever and wherever you are in the ladder of life just accept, make peace and enjoy it to the full knowing that someone somewhere wishes s/he were you.
