President Bola Tinubu has called for stricter engineering regulation, stronger enforcement and proportionate sanctions to improve infrastructure quality, safeguard lives and boost investor confidence. Speaking at COREN’s 34th Engineering Assembly in Abuja, the President said engineering oversight must evolve into a preventive, data-driven system that ensures accountability from project design to maintenance. He stressed that substandard engineering leads to loss of lives, wasted investments and declining public trust, while highlighting his administration’s commitment to delivering longer-lasting infrastructure. COREN and Dangote Group also urged tougher compliance measures, risk-based regulation and ethical engineering practices, saying robust standards are critical to Nigeria’s industrial growth, public safety and economic competitiveness.
