The Senate has called on the federal government to intensify military and intelligence operations against terrorists, kidnappers and bandits following the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire, Oyo State after 57 days in captivity. Lawmakers commended President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and the coordinated efforts of security agencies, while urging improved welfare, equipment and prompt compensation for the families of fallen security personnel. The Senate also called for continued public support through intelligence sharing, while appeals were made for the rescue of other Nigerians still in captivity and comprehensive rehabilitation for the victims. Meanwhile, the SGF defended the federal government’s response to the crisis, and LAUTECH Teaching Hospital confirmed 31 rescued pupils had been discharged, with eight others still receiving treatment.
