French media giant **Canal+** (part of the Vivendi group) has completed its acquisition of **MultiChoice Group**, the South African parent company of DStv, GOtv, Showmax, and related services. The deal values MultiChoice at approximately **$3 billion** (around R55 billion), with full integration and control achieved in mid-2026.

### Key details:
- **Canal+** previously built up a stake (around 45%) and made a mandatory offer for the remaining shares at R125 per share.
- The process involved regulatory approvals (including from South Africa’s Competition Tribunal) and took several years, with effective control announced around September 2025 and full completion/integration by mid-2026 (including a secondary JSE listing).
- **MultiChoice** is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Canal+. DStv and GOtv are no longer under South African majority ownership.

Note that service branding (DStv, GOtv) and day-to-day operations for subscribers are expected to continue largely unchanged in the near term.
