The insecurity in our dear Benue State has become a daily nightmare killings, attacks, fear everywhere. Every time it happens, the first thing we do is shout: "Government, come and help! Government, do something!"
But my brothers and sisters, isn't this calling on the government becoming too much? A whole nation, a whole people, cannot unite to stand against a few wicked elements? Some even create stories and propaganda behind these attacks to divide us further.
Why have we reduced ourselves to this? Our youths and men of nowadays are we no longer men? We sit and wait for government to come and protect our farms, our homes, our families. If your farm is overrun by pests, do you just sit down and blame the soil every day? Or do you find a way to control and stop the pests?
We can organise ourselves. We can be vigilant. We can go into the forests and bushes with caution and courage to protect what belongs to us. Instead of constant crying to government, why not rise up and take responsibility for our own security?
Calling on the government all the time is only worsening the matter. Our endless cries are weakening us instead of strengthening us.
Benue people, it is time to wake up! Unity is our real power. Self reliance is our true defence.
