“My Life is in Danger” -Embattled DG of ‘Fake’ Agency Speaks Out.
The embattled Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, Adeniyi Adeyemi, has claimed that his life is under threat, saying he is staying away from the public not because he is hiding from authorities, but out of fear for his safety.
Adeyemi made the assertion during a telephone interview on Channels Television on Monday, days after a United States lobbying firm offered to assist him in seeking asylum in the US over alleged threats.
He dismissed suggestions that he was in hiding.
“I’m ready. I’m ready to show my face. I’m not hiding. I’m only fearing for my life because I have it on good authority that my life is in danger,” Adeyemi said.
He further alleged that there had been several attempts on his life, although he provided no specific details or named those responsible.
The comments come as controversy continues to swirl around the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, which the Presidency has repeatedly described as a fictitious body with no official existence.
A US lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, had earlier announced plans to help Adeyemi secure asylum and whistleblower protection in the United States. The firm’s representative, Dr Von Batten, described Adeyemi as “sincere and credible” and claimed that he and his family had received serious threats.
The lobbyist also said his team had begun briefing senior officials in President Donald Trump’s administration and planned to engage members of the US Congress over Adeyemi’s allegations against senior Nigerian government officials.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force is preparing to arraign Adeyemi at the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of forgery, impersonation and related offences.
In the charge sheet marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, Adeyemi and two others are accused of eight counts. Police allege that he operated the purported agency from the second floor of the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase III, Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the activities of the alleged agency within 30 days.
The scandal has also triggered fresh questions in the National Assembly after it emerged that the agency was allocated ₦1.302 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act, despite the Presidency’s insistence that it does not exist.
While the Senate has decided to await the outcome of the ICPC probe before considering its own investigation, several opposition parties have demanded a full independent probe into both the funding and operations of the controversial council.
