WHAT THE WEEKEND REVEALED 🇳🇬

This weekend wasn't just about a rescue. It was about a reminder.

The safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State after 56 days in captivity gave many Nigerians a reason to rejoice. It also demonstrated what is possible when intelligence, coordination, and determination come together.

But beyond the celebration lies an important question: Why do we often celebrate successful rescues more than we invest in preventing abductions?

Rescue is commendable. Prevention is even better.

As conversations around governance and development continued over the weekend, one lesson stood out to me: the true measure of progress is not only how we respond to crises, but how effectively our institutions prevent them.

Whether it is security, education, healthcare, or infrastructure, strong systems don't just solve problems—they reduce the likelihood of those problems occurring in the first place.

Perhaps that's the lesson we should carry into this new week: let us celebrate every success while also demanding and supporting the systems that make such crises less likely in the future.

The experience we've encountered are as a result of a failed system. A failed system ignited by our politicians as a weapon to counter oppositions, neglecting the negative effects it may have in future to come.
