Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has increased the state’s support for the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Azare to ₦400 million, announcing an additional ₦200 million during an inspection of the facility. He praised the hospital’s rapid transformation, noting that within just six months of full operations it has treated nearly 4,000 patients and performed more than 300 major surgeries, including hip replacements, knee replacements and complex spinal procedures.

Despite reportedly operating without capital releases or overhead funding from the Federal Government, the hospital has expanded beyond orthopaedic care to provide paediatric, obstetric and gynaecological services, emerging as a key referral centre for the North-East and neighbouring Cameroon. Zulum credited the progress to effective leadership, strategic collaboration and prudent management, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery.
