On issue of calls by Chief Dave Umahi for debate with his excellency Mr. Peter Obi. My take is for the debate to be on a level playing ground. Dave should resign as Minister of works then pick a political party ticket as a presidential candidate and then call for a debate with PO.
Dave has been an 8yrs DG, 8yrs Gov. a senator and now a Minister of works. Meaning he has been in power for almost 20yrs now. While Obi has only been Gov. for just 8yrs and in the last 13yrs been out of power and in a private life.
Politically in 2019 Obi was a running mate with Atiku and in 2023 a presidential candidate of a relatively unknown party LP. He surprised Nigerians by pulling 6m+ votes according to Inec in an election both the international community and greater percentage of Nigerians believed he won.
While Dave in 2023 was a placeholder for the incumbent and later a senatorial candidate without primary election as stipulated by the Electoral act and also flagrant disobedience of electoral act that one cannot seek for two different offices in an election circle.
With these analysis you can see that Dave for 20yrs has been feeding on taxpayers money doesn’t know the effects of subsidy removal and what it takes for an average feeding of a family on daily basis. While Obi has in the last 13 yrs been taking care of his personal and family financial needs alike.
My take is that both Men aren’t in the same capacity for a debate. For both of them to debate. Dave should resign and take relatively unknown party presidential candidate ticket, run for an and pull 6m+. Thereafter both of would be seen on the same level for a debate. In absence of all these facts, NO DEBATE BETWEEN THEM FOR NOW.
