Before creating State Police, Nigeria must first build leaders and institutions that can be trusted with power. Giving more authority to politicians who have repeatedly abused existing powers risks turning law enforcement into a tool of political intimidation rather than public protection. Security reform should begin with accountability, judicial independence, and strengthening existing institutions. Without these foundations, State Police could create more victims than solutions, and ordinary Nigerians would bear the greatest cost.
