JUST IN: Tinubu Upgrades Nasarawa Poly to Federal University of Mining and Technology

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, into the Federal University of Mining, Engineering and Technology, Nasarawa.

The decision followed a proposal by Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, who advocated for a specialised university to harness the state’s rich mineral deposits and produce the skilled workforce needed to develop the sector.

It is expected to train professionals who will drive value addition in Nigeria’s mining industry, advance technological development, and promote the sustainable exploitation of the nation’s mineral resources.

To ensure a smooth transition, the President has directed the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), and other relevant agencies to immediately begin the necessary legal and administrative processes in line with existing laws and regulations.

Linzkits: Nice move
Danny Angbashim: Only March this year this same govt announced that the FEC has placed a 6-year moratorium on establishment of new universities in the country because many of the new ones have low students enrollment or poorly funded.

It's mere politics.
