To God be the glory!

The rescue of the schoolchildren and their teachers is a huge relief. We thank God for preserving their lives.

But one question keeps bothering me: What kind of person abducts innocent children and their teachers, drags them into the bush, and keeps them there for 54 days?

Some people are truly evil.

One positive thing I noticed is that we appear to have abandoned the insensitive practice of welcoming rescued kidnap victims with matching aso ebi, as though they had just returned from a celebration instead of surviving weeks of unimaginable trauma. That is a welcome change.

As for the Governor of Oyo State, I believe he got it wrong with his partisan conspiracy claims yesterday. At a time when innocent children and their teachers were still in captivity, the overriding priority of any leader should have been securing their safe return—not engaging in political blame games based on speculation.

Suggesting that the abduction was connected to his presidential declaration was, in my view, premature and unhelpful. Kidnapping operations of this nature are rarely conceived and executed overnight. It is far more likely that the attack had been planned well before his announcement.

Besides, this tragedy is sadly not unique to Oyo State. Similar mass abductions of schoolchildren have occurred in several other states, including APC-led Niger, Borno, Kebbi, Kwara and Zamfara. That reality should remind us that insecurity is a national challenge requiring unity of purpose, not partisan accusations.

May this be the last time our children and their teachers are subjected to such horror. May God grant them healing from the trauma they have endured, comfort their families, and continue to protect every Nigerian from the hands of evil.
