Living Within Your Means Is Good. Living Below Your Means Is Better.

Growing up, I often heard the advice:

“Live within your means.”

It’s good advice.

But as I’ve grown older and studied how financially successful people think, I’ve learned something even more powerful.

Many wealthy people don’t just live within their means. They intentionally live below them.

Just because your income increases doesn’t mean your lifestyle has to.

Just because you can afford it doesn’t mean you should buy it.

The gap between what you earn and what you spend is where wealth is built.

That gap becomes:

✔️ Your savings.

✔️ Your investments.

✔️ Your emergency fund.

✔️ Your children’s opportunities.

✔️ Your financial freedom.

Many people increase their spending every time they receive a raise.

Others increase their investing.

Years later, the difference becomes obvious.

Wealth isn’t always about earning the highest income.

Often, it’s about making wise decisions with the income you already have.

One lesson I wish someone had taught me earlier is this:

Don’t let your lifestyle grow faster than your income.

Better yet…

Let your investments grow faster than your lifestyle.

That’s how financial security—and eventually wealth—is built.
