His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, welcomes Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc to become a key partner in the next phase of Abia's economic transformation, with discussions centred on infrastructure financing, support for small and medium sized businesses and other strategic investments.
The Governor made this known today,Thursday 9th July 2026, while receiving the Executive Management of the bank, led by its Group Chief Executive, Mr. Chuma Nwokeocha.
Dr Alex C. Otti identified the proposed Abia Medical City and the planned Obuaku Seaport as two major projects with enormous investment potential, explaining that land has already been secured for the Medical City while feasibility studies are ongoing for the seaport. Governor Otti said both sides would establish technical teams to examine practical areas of collaboration that would deliver lasting value to the State.
The Governor welcomed the bank's presentation, describing it as a business focused engagement built on practical ideas rather than empty promises. He praised Stanbic IBTC for bringing forward proposals capable of supporting Abia's development agenda and also acknowledged the bank's intervention in renovating a school in the State through its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, encouraging more private sector institutions to support community development alongside government.
Earlier, Mr. Chuma Nwokeocha, Group Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, said the financial institution is prepared to work closely with the Abia State Government in areas including infrastructure funding, SME financing, housing finance, agro industrial development, capital market solutions and improving Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). He said the decision to engage Abia was driven by the quality of leadership and the clear direction of the present administration, expressing confidence that such a partnership would attract fresh investments, expand economic opportunities and improve the standard of living of the people.
The meeting was attended by the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Dr Uwaoma Ukandu alongside other Commissioners and senior government officials.
