How Does a “Non-Existent” Agency Grow Wings?

Sometimes, the biggest scandal is not the accusation itself,it is the trail of official footprints left behind.

The Federal Government now says the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) never legally existed. It has described the agency as fictitious, while its alleged Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, is facing criminal charges. The courts will determine the truth of those allegations.

But before we get to the courtroom, Nigerians deserve answers to something even more fascinating.

If PFIPC was truly non-existent…

Who allocated office space?

Who processed official correspondence?

Who approved requests that reportedly led to the opening of government accounts?

Who invited representatives of the agency to official engagements?

Who processed documents that allegedly gave the agency a place within government circles?

Government institutions are built on procedures. Files move from one desk to another. Every approval has signatures. Every letter has an origin. Every document has officers responsible for vetting it.

One person may forge a document.

But can one person single-handedly convince multiple government institutions to treat a non-existent agency as genuine?

That is the question Nigerians should be asking.

This is no longer just about Adeniyi Adeyemi.

This is about the credibility of our institutions.

Because if one individual could allegedly walk through several layers of government unnoticed, then the problem is much bigger than one man.

The real mystery is not whether the agency existed.

The real mystery is:

Who opened every door?
