Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has declared that the conversation on whether Nigeria should adopt state police has been settled, urging policymakers to concentrate on building an effective decentralised policing system. Speaking at the ARISE NEWS Town Hall on State Police, Mbah argued that governors cannot be held responsible for security without the operational authority needed to protect lives and property, insisting that Nigeria’s centralised policing model has failed to keep pace with evolving security threats.

He advocated a policing framework that combines national standards with local decision-making and flexibility, saying effective security is essential for economic growth, investment and public confidence.
