The Abia State Government has announced a major turnaround at the Enyimba Automated Shoe Company (ENASCO) and the Enyimba Garment Factory in Aba, with both facilities now fully back in production after years of inactivity.
Briefing journalists after this week's State Executive Council meeting chaired by the Governor, Dr. Alex C. Otti , OFR, the Commissioner for Information, Hon Prince Okey Kanu , said the renewed activity at the factories is the outcome of deliberate reforms introduced by the present administration and the appointment of Ms. Nena Kalu Ogba to lead the two companies in 2025.
The Commissioner explained that the revival is part of Governor Otti's wider plan to grow Abia's industrial base, create sustainable jobs and position the State as Nigeria's manufacturing destination.
Prince Kanu disclosed that the two factories now operate five production lines, while new product brands are being developed to compete successfully within Nigeria and beyond its borders. He also revealed that preparations have reached an advanced stage for the commencement of the Pocket Layout Industrial Estate Project, following the opening of bids from prospective contractors, with successful bidders expected to be announced shortly. According to him, the project, located at the Old Civil Service Commission premises and the former Abia Hotels site, will provide functional and affordable housing, while ongoing site clearing will pave the way for construction activities.
Speaking at the briefing, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Enyimba Automated Shoe Company Limited and Enyimba Factory Limited, Ms. Nena Kalu Ogba, said the State Government had invested in modern production and finishing equipment to ensure the factories produce footwear and garments that can compete with leading international brands. She noted that aside upgrading machinery, the working environment has been transformed, staff salaries are now paid consistently, and attention is focused on changing the long held perception about Aba made products by delivering quality that meets global standards.
