Major stock markets across the Gulf closed lower after renewed military tensions between the United States and Iran unsettled investors and heightened concerns over regional stability. The latest escalation, which included US strikes on Iranian military assets and Iranian attacks on American bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, was compounded by fresh US restrictions on Iran’s oil exports.
The worsening security situation also disrupted shipping near the Strait of Hormuz, with reports of damage to oil and gas vessels raising concerns over one of the world’s busiest energy corridors. As uncertainty deepened, Brent crude rose above $76 per barrel, while key stock indices in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar posted losses amid growing fears over the economic impact of prolonged instability.
