POWER OF HISTORY

Ezra 3:12 KJV
[12] But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:.

History is very important to life if progress is going to be made easily. This is because, through history you can build on the past and turn its failure to success. Otherwise, the failure of the past will gain access to the present and continue to deny the possibility of moving forward. The greatest undoing of the people of Egypt that led them to perish in the Red Sea was due to the death of the king that knew not Joseph. The new king did not know that Joseph was the reason why Egypt survived famine. If he had known, he would not have worked against the people of Joseph.
Exodus 1:8 KJV
Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

The story in the passage above shows us why history is very important in life. When the foundation of the temple was laid after it was destroyed, the elders were crying while the young men were jubilating. The elders were crying because the initial building was greater than what they were building. Meanwhile, the younger ones were jubilating because they did not know what the initial building looked like but were happy that a new temple was under construction. The truth is that when you dont know history, you will not be able to discern between failure and success. Just like it is in the Church
of our time, the people who know history have not been comfortable with the happenings in the Church today because people lived in conformity with the truth of the Bible more than we see today.

We celebrate the quality of revelation we hear today from preachers but lack conformity with the word. We jubilate over the Church having the capacity to build gigantic places of worship with so much resources at the disposal of the Church but cannot say the same for the believers we raise under such a roof. It will definitely take history for people to value conformity with the Bible. There is so much noise about us living under grace but with less manifestation of the power of God like the people of old. When Daniel, who we scream is not under grace, is shutting the mouth of the lion, we under the dispensation of grace are running from every threat of the anti-Christ. Beloved, the history of what befell the men of old who refuse to live according to the ways of God should teach a lesson why you should be obedient to the word of God.
Jude 1:6 KJV
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. The scripture above should tell you that those who went into sin in those days were not spared of punishment. Therefore, you must be careful to think that God has changed his mind about the punishment for sinners. Let history teach you a good lesson so that you will have a good future.

Daily Task
Mention five advantages of history.

Prayers
1. Father, I receive grace to hold on to the ancient landmark.
2. Father, help me not to underrate the power of history.
