โ€Ž
โ€ŽGbajabiamila's latest move does little to inspire confidence. To me, it appears less like the response of someone eager to establish the truth and more like a calculated attempt at damage controlโ€”a face-saving exercise by a man who understands the protective power of privilege.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽAnd by privilege, I mean the kind that thrives where institutions are weak and accountability is selective. In a country where the rule of law is truly respected, the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu would, at the very least, step aside or be placed on administrative leave while these serious allegations are subjected to a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation. That is what responsible governance demands. Public office should never become a shield against scrutiny.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThis is not the first time Gbajabiamila's name has surfaced in public controversy. Whether these allegations are ultimately substantiated or dismissed, Nigerians deserve a process that is credible, impartial, and free from political interference. Justice is best served when it is allowed to follow the evidenceโ€”not influence, power, or status.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽI consider myself a superstitious man. I sincerely hope nothing untoward happens to the man identified as a key witness, Prince Matthew Adeniyi. I do not want to wake up to stories that he was struck by lightning or that some other bizarre tragedy has befallen him. These are deeply troubling times in Nigeria, and public confidence in our institutions has been badly eroded. The only acceptable outcome is for every relevant authority to ensure that all parties are safe, the investigation is conducted without intimidation, and the truth is allowed to emerge.
