FIRST AID

An elderly person has fallen and is lying on the floor complaining of hip pain. They are otherwise alert and comfortable.
What do you do?

A. Help them up carefully by supporting their weight, getting off a cold floor quickly prevents hypothermia.

B. Encourage them to try to stand using a chair for support, if they can weight-bear, the hip is probably not broken.

C. Give them pain relief medication from the medicine cabinet before calling for help, reducing pain before moving them makes the process safer.

D. Do not attempt to help them up. keep them warm with a blanket, make them comfortable, call for emergency help, and stay with them. Moving a person with a hip fracture without proper equipment courses further injury.
