The Federal Government has called on journalists and social media influencers to deny terrorists and bandits the publicity they seek by promoting ethical, factual and responsible communication. Speaking at the maiden Arewa Media Summit in Kano, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris said the media plays a critical role in strengthening democracy, fostering national unity and countering disinformation that threatens public trust and security.

The minister warned that while the digital age has expanded access to information, it has also accelerated the spread of fake news. Organisers of the summit urged influencers to verify content before publication, especially ahead of the 2027 elections, while emphasizing transparency, accountability and balanced reporting as essential pillars for effective governance and informed citizen engagement.
