As the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) prepares to launch its 2026 Licensing Round, oil and gas expert Leesi Gabriel Gborogbosi has advised prospective bidders to adopt a disciplined, long-term approach to investment and risk management. He urged investors to treat licensing as a comprehensive investment programme by studying Nigeria’s regulatory framework, assessing commercial realities and preparing for every stage of the bidding process.

Gborogbosi also warned against overlooking technical, financial and community-related risks associated with marginal and brownfield assets. He recommended diversified financing models, early stakeholder engagement and strong execution plans, stressing that long-term operational sustainability—not just winning a bid—will determine success and create lasting value for Nigeria’s energy sector.
