The Senate Committee on Customs and Excise has approved the Nigeria Customs Service’s 2026 revenue target of N11.074 trillion and expenditure proposal of N1.235 trillion, expressing confidence in the agency’s ability to sustain its reform-driven performance. The approval followed the budget defence by Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi, who highlighted improvements in revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations.

Customs exceeded its 2025 revenue target by generating N7.277 trillion, while it has already collected N4.043 trillion in the first half of 2026 despite global trade disruptions. The agency attributed its ambitious projection to digital reforms, intelligence-led operations and improved border management, while lawmakers urged Customs to build on its momentum and continue strengthening Nigeria’s revenue base.
