Zamfara Reaffirms No Talks With Bandits as Security Forces Rescue More Kidnap Victims.
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has reiterated that his administration will not negotiate with bandits, insisting that the government will continue supporting security agencies until criminal groups surrender or are brought to justice.
The governor's position was conveyed by his Chief of Staff, Mukhtar Musa, during the inauguration of the Association of Zamfara State Indigenes Residing in Kaduna State. Musa said the state government remains committed to tackling insecurity through sustained collaboration with the military and other security agencies by providing logistics, equipment, and operational support.
He stressed that the administration would intensify its offensive against bandits while urging residents to support security agencies with credible intelligence, describing community cooperation as essential to restoring lasting peace. Musa also reaffirmed the government's commitment to development and unity among Zamfara indigenes and announced a donation of ₦5 million to support the new association.
The association's chairman, Garba Balarabe, described the inauguration as a major milestone that would strengthen unity and welfare among members, while Zamfara Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdulrahman Tumbido, expressed optimism that improved security efforts would encourage displaced indigenes to return home.
Meanwhile, security operatives have secured the release of 22 kidnap victims abducted from communities in Kwara South. The victims regained their freedom following coordinated operations by the Kogi State Joint Security Operations, comprising the military, police, local hunters, and vigilantes, along the forests bordering Kwara and Kogi states.
Those rescued included four residents abducted in Idofin-Igbana about three months ago, 15 worshippers kidnapped from Ikerin Church in April 2026, and three members of ECWA Church, Omugo, who had also been held captive. Community leaders commended the operation and praised security personnel for their efforts.
In Borno State, troops of Operation Hadin Kai rescued six kidnap victims, including four adults and two infants, during ongoing search-and-rescue operations linked to students abducted from Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
According to military authorities, the victims were rescued following sustained air and ground operations supported by credible intelligence and were evacuated to safety for medical care. Troops also recovered 50 rounds of PKT ammunition abandoned by fleeing insurgents.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to rescuing all abducted persons and maintaining pressure on terrorist groups. Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant, provide timely intelligence, and avoid spreading unverified information, while confirming that search efforts continue for dozens of students still missing in Borno State.
