FG Urges Ogun, Ondo Communities to Support Dangote Industrial City, Deep Seaport Project.

The Federal Government urges communities in Ogun and Ondo to support Dangote Industrial City and Deep Seaport, calling it a vital investment that will boost growth, jobs, and regional development.

This appeal came during a three-day ESIA site visit to Ode-Omi Waterside and Araromi communities, involving government officials, community leaders, and Dangote representatives.

Mrs. Rofikat Adebukunola Odetoro, representing the Environment Minister, praised Dangote for its environment-friendly and inclusive practices, emphasizing the importance of including women and children in all engagements. She highlighted that the project will create employment, skills, and social programs to benefit the communities.

Managing Director, Infrastructure and Logistics, Dangote Industries Limited, Capt. Jamil Abubakar, assured residents that the company would maintain transparency, fairness, and continuous dialogue throughout the project. He said Aliko Dangote remains committed to promoting Africa's economic self-sufficiency through strategic infrastructure investments.

According to him, Araromi was selected as the site for what is expected to become one of the world's largest deep seaports. He disclosed that Dangote had directed the project team to carry out comprehensive community needs assessments and implement priority interventions, regardless of the project's development stage.

Presenting the ESIA, Dangote Industries' Group Lead for Environment and Sustainability, Dr. Adeyemi Adun, explained that the assessment would establish baseline environmental and socio-economic conditions by evaluating air quality, water resources, soil conditions, biodiversity, and community livelihoods before construction begins. He expressed confidence that the project would deliver lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits.

Ondo State's Director of Environmental Assessment, Isaac Ojo, welcomed the commencement of the ESIA, describing the process as transparent and inclusive. He encouraged residents to support the project, expressing confidence that it would unlock significant development opportunities for the area.

The Alara of Araromi Seaside Kingdom, Oba Adeoloye Olawole, also pledged the community's full support, describing Aliko Dangote as "a genius" whose investments have driven development across Africa. He said the proposed industrial city and deep seaport would unlock the economic potential of the kingdom and surrounding communities.

At the end of the assessment visits, stakeholders signed communiqués outlining their commitments to the successful implementation of the project, while environmental consultants commenced field surveys and sample collection, marking another milestone toward the realization of what is projected to become Africa's largest deep seaport and a major industrial hub.
