*OUR RESPONSIBILITY IN HIS LOVE - TO BEHOLD HIS LOVE*

*1st John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not*

The first word in this chapter was an instruction. It means to observe or look sternly or to actively consider a truth. The truth in this context is that the Father has lavished us with his love. The word bestowed means to give extravagantly or give without restrictions. It is similar to James’ expression in James 1:5 where he described God as a giving God.

The word liberally describes his giving as one who would never find a reason not to give.

The word behold was used in 2nd Corinthians 5:17 in referring to our new creature reality. This was the same also in Matthew 28:20 where we were instructed to observe his ever-abiding presence in us.

• James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

The difference between the doer and the hearer in this context was that he continued to look. He kept being aware, this was why he did not forget.

So, sons of God are meant to enjoy the Christian walk by observing or focussing on these realities.

• Colossians 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

We received him when he received the message of his love and this ought to remain our meditation.

We are to continue to observe his love for us. It is not a once and for all event.

• 2nd Timothy 3:14. We must continue in this truth and keep feeding on them. It must remain our focus.
