HOW INFLUENCE OPERATES*

*Text: “Don’t befriend angry people or associate with hot-tempered people. Or you will learn to be like them and endanger your soul.” Proverbs 22:24-25 NLT

We would begin our lesson with a scripture in the book of Proverbs. Proverbs 22:24 says “Don’t befriend angry people or associate with hot-tempered people.” NLT. This instruction sounds very strange but it’s a life-transforming instruction. The next verse gives us the reason for this instruction. Verse 25 says “Or you will learn to be like them and endanger your soul.” This is an instruction that clearly explains the concept of influence.

We are all products of one form of influence or another. Someone or something had made or still significantly influenced your life. We have all been influenced by parents, teachers, friends, spouses, the media etc. You may not have realized it but certain things you do are influenced by someone or by something. There are influences you had no choice about. Your consent wasn’t involved in the choice of these influences. The choice of your parents, the choice of where you grew up or the choice of the culture that shaped your childhood wasn’t your choice at all. If you sincerely look at your life you will see traces of those influences on your life.

I saw something really negative few years ago . I saw a very clear example of a negative influence. I saw a religious group that is supposedly a Church where after the preaching and singing everyone in the Church is given a bottle of Beer including children as young as 5 years old confidently and openly drinking Beer. This is the most negative kind of influence I have ever seen in my life. I’m sure you are as shocked as I was when I saw it. These innocent Children are victims of an influence they had no choice about. We would learn more tomorrow.

PRAYER:
In the name of Jesus I declare that every form of negative influence on my life is broken.
