WORSHIPPING IN THE SPIRIT

John 4:24 KJV
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

The statement of Myles Monroe about purpose is very helpful to avoid abuse of privileges and opportunities. He said when the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse will be inevitable. Truly, there is lots of abuse of spiritual things in our time because the purpose is not known. It is very unfortunate that worship, which is not only a weapon but our means of connecting with God in the spirit, has been so abused and misused that the power in it has been eroded.
Jesus said, if you will call a thing worship, the Spirit must be involved as stated in the text. In other words, worship is not in the melody or rhythm but in the communication with God through the Spirit. It means that the network signal must be on so we can connect with Him. This happens when the lyrics of the song is what drives us and not the melody. It should be that if there is no instrument, your flow in worship will not be affected. Unfortunately, we dont have this as a mindset in this generation. Everything called worship in Church today revolves around melody, rhythm and good or skillful play by instrumentalists. This is why people will sweat after a worship session in the Church and start sleeping when the word of God is being preached. If the worship is done as worship, it should provoke a very attentive atmosphere to hear and learn of God when the message is being preached. In fact, the worship in our days is making people avoid the word of God. There are so many people in Church who consider the service as over to them soon after the worship session. To them, the Church has become a spiritual club or alternative to night club.
Beloved, true worship must be deliberate and intentional. It occurs when the message and lyrics inspired by God are communicated from your spirit to your soul. This is why Paul admonishes us to speak to ourselves in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.
Ephesians 5:19 KJV
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
He did not simply say to sing, but to speak through the songs, allowing their truth to minister to your soul and align it with your spirit.
I pray that you will henceforth see worship in Church as a means of communicating with God and not just enjoying music in Church.
