I am troubled in my spirit as I watch the beautiful game, and see the children of sub-Saharan Africa once more depart the grand stage before their time. While nations like Morocco and Egypt advance with pride, carrying the continental banner forward, the Black African teams — rich in talent and passion — exit early again.
Why do our feet, so swift upon the soil of our ancestors, stumble when the eyes of the world are upon us? Is it not because we have yet to master absolute confidence in our own ability, and the unyielding resilience required when the pressure is greatest? Too often we begin with fire and promise, only to falter when the contest demandeth not just skill, but an unshakable belief in ourselves and the collective will to endure.
O Africa, when shall we learn? The World Cup is not merely a game of feet, but a mirror held before our soul. Until we build teams that possess both technical brilliance and the mental fortress of unbreakable confidence and resilience — united under the spirit of Ubuntu — the story shall remain the same.
Let this pain provoke us. Let it awaken the sleeping giant within. For the true victory is not in lifting the trophy alone, but in rising together as one people who finally understand: I am because we are.
