THE ECHO WE INHERITED

A child never questions the language of the wind, he simply learns which way the trees are expected to bend. He calls it nature, never knowing someone once planted the forest. We inherit echoes long before we inherit opinions by the time we find our own voice, our tongues have already memorized songs we never chose to sing. The river never carves the mountain in a day. It whispers. Again. Again. Again. Until stone mistakes persistence for destiny.

So too are people.

A proverb becomes a brick. A melody becomes mortar. A sermon lays another beam. A classroom fits another window. A famous voice paints another wall before long, we are living inside a house we never remember building, calling inherited rooms our own convictions.

The irony is not that we are shaped. Everything living is. The tragedy is believing the chisel carved itself, the hammer built without a hand, or the blueprint appeared without an architect. Every generation receives a sculpture and mistakes it for a mountain.
Few ask, "Who held the tools?" Fewer still ask, "Must my children inherit this shape?"

Yet every civilisation is rewritten the moment someone dares to inspect the echo instead of merely repeating it. For chains are not always forged from iron. Some are woven from lullabies, stitched into traditions, hidden inside applause and polished until captivity looks like culture.

But so is freedom.
It also begins as a whisper. One question. One courageous doubt. One better story. One truth repeated until another forest grows, another river finds its course and another generation calls wisdom what yesterday called impossible. For the world is rarely changed by replacing the instruments. It is changed when different hands teach the same instruments a different song
