EFCC SECURES N150M FORFEITURE AGAINST LAWMAKER

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of N150 million linked to Hon. Nicholas Mutu, the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives, who has represented Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency since 1999 and recently lost the APC primary for another term.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the order following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which argued that the funds constituted proceeds of unlawful activities.

The court held that the EFCC had established its case after considering objections filed by Mutu and his company, Airworld Technologies Limited, and ordered the money forfeited to the Federal Government.

The anti-graft agency alleged that the funds were part of kickbacks received while Mutu served as Chairman of the House Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission between 2014 and 2016.

The ruling comes months after another Federal High Court discharged and acquitted Mutu of money laundering charges arising from the same investigation, a decision the EFCC has appealed.
