THE BOAT WE CHOSE
No one asks the river how many storms it has swallowed. We stand on the shore instead, admiring polished wood, counting bright sails and mistaking beauty for seaworthiness. Yet oceans have never negotiated with appearances.
Every marriage is a boat pushed from familiar sand into waters that owe no one kindness. There will be mornings when the sea carries songs and nights when it remembers only thunder. It is then we discover that we did not merely choose a companion.
We chose their winters, their unfinished battles, their inherited winds, their hidden fears, their way of breaking, their way of healing and they chose ours.
For love has never been the union of two sunshine-filled skies. It is the meeting of two climates, learning not to become each other's disaster.
A resilient heart is an anchor that remembers the seabed when every wave insists there is none. It is the rope that frays without surrendering. It is the mast that bows to the wind, not because it is weak but because it understands that survival is wiser than pride.
Choose carefully. Forever is not a destination; it is an ocean. The greatest question is not whether storms will come. They will. The question is whether the storm in one soul can find peace beside the storm in another. For marriage is not only choosing a person.
It is choosing the weather they carry and praying, through grace, wisdom and resilience, that together, you become a lighthouse instead of a shipwreck.
