Every day in Canada, I find myself appreciating the little things many people here may take for granted—peace of mind, functioning systems, cleaner streets, respect for rules, and the feeling that institutions can actually work for ordinary people.

Then I remember home.

Being Nigerian is a source of pride. Our resilience, talent, culture, and spirit are unmatched. But it is also painful to watch a nation so richly blessed struggle under the weight of hardship, insecurity, corruption, and years of poor leadership.

The saddest part is knowing that so much of our suffering is preventable. Too often, public office has been treated as an opportunity for personal enrichment instead of public service. While millions of hardworking Nigerians fight every day just to survive, too many in positions of power appear disconnected from the realities their citizens face.

Nigeria does not lack resources. Nigeria does not lack brilliant minds. What we have lacked for far too long is accountable leadership and a genuine commitment to building a nation where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.

I will always love Nigeria. That love is exactly why I refuse to pretend everything is okay. Loving your country also means wanting better for it.

One day, I hope every Nigerian can experience the same sense of security, dignity, and opportunity that every human being deserves
