NNEKA'S DIARY XXXVI
I asked Kunle once, "Do you ever think about Angela and wish things had been different?"
He was quiet for a moment.
"I wish she had gotten help. I wish Mary still had her mother. But wishing doesn't change what is."
He held my face in his hands.
"What is… is you. And I don't wish that away."
Final Thoughts.
I didn't plan to fall in love with a widower.
I didn't plan to be a stepmother.
I didn't plan to forgive a man for flirting with me while he was still married.
But life is not a plan. It is series of choices.
I chose to attend that burial.
I chose to stay when I wanted to run.
I chose to ask the hard questions.
And I chose to say yes.
Now, sitting here in our home, with Mary's drawings on the fridge, Grace's loud music playing from her room, and Kunle's jacket draped over the chair — I can honestly say:
I would not rewrite a single page.
Thank you for journeying with me.
THE END
