2 Samuel 7:7 NIV

"Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’”

Context: This is part of God’s message to King David through the prophet Nathan. David wanted to build God a permanent temple, but God reminds him that He never asked for a house of cedar. Instead, God promises to build David a “house” — a dynasty — in verses 11-16.
