Many people harbour a deep fear of being overwhelmed by others — such as someone who unexpectedly makes them smile against their will, shares thoughts that challenge their prejudices, or offers them wisdom. They often resist being seduced because, to them, seduction represents facing their limits — which they believe should be fixed and unchangeable — yet the seducer can subtly cause them to waver. Seduction, in this light, reflects a universal desire to be overwhelmed, to be gently taken beyond oneself in understanding and connection.
