CLARIFICATION TIME: First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has responded to criticism over her earlier comments about supporting akara sellers, saying the Federal Government’s empowerment programmes also benefit tomato, pepper, vegetable and roasted plantain traders.
According to her, the government has provided ₦100 million to support 2,000 petty traders in Jigawa State, with each beneficiary receiving ₦50,000 to help grow their businesses.
“It’s not only akara, we also have tomato sellers… those selling pepper and vegetables for us in the market,” she said, adding that the administration will continue supporting small-scale traders and remains focused on improving livelihoods across the country.
