OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS DEVOTIONAL

DATE: TUESDAY JUNE 30TH 2026

TOPIC: WHO ARE YOUR FRIENDS?

MEMORISE:
Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. - (Ecclesiastes 4:9)

BIBLE READING: ECCLESIASTES 4:1-9 (KJV)

1 So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

2 Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive.

3 Yea, better is he than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

4 Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.

5 The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.

6 Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.

7 Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun.

8 There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.

9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

MESSAGE:
Friendships and quality relationships provide support and encouragement when they are built on love, mutual respect, and obedience to God's principles. The Bible encourages believers not to walk alone, but instead, to exhort and encourage one another (Hebrews 10:24-25). Today, many young people struggle with depression and psychological issues because they isolate themselves from other people.

The Bible emphasises the importance of godly associations. In Proverbs 13:20 (KJV), the Scripture says, "He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed." Some Christians have encountered problems due to wrong friendships. However, there are also inspiring stories of people who were rescued from danger because a friend checked on them or alerted the right authorities on time.

An adage says, 'Show me your friend, and I will tell you who you are. This means that your friends can significantly influence the direction of your life. Therefore, I implore you to choose your friends wisely. Ensure that you and your friends are particular about one another's progress morally, spiritually, academically, and in other aspects of life.

KEY POINT:
Your friends can be a major influence in your life; therefore, choose them carefully.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: LUKE 7:1-30, JUDGES 1-2

HYMNAL: 6 WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

1 What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!

2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!

3 Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge--
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do your friends despise, forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.
