The Federal Government will today airlift 271 Nigerians from South Africa as it continues the voluntary evacuation of citizens affected by renewed anti-immigration tensions and xenophobic unrest. Operated by Air Peace, the flight is scheduled to depart Nigeria this afternoon, pick up evacuees in South Africa, and arrive in Lagos on Tuesday morning. The latest operation follows earlier evacuations that have already brought hundreds of Nigerians home, with more than 1,000 citizens initially registering for assistance. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the exercise underscores Nigeria’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and providing consular support during times of crisis.
