It is good that Nigerians are finally having proper discussions about the olodo uprising. Although many content creators are still treating this deep crisis as just another topic to farm for views and engagement, the reality of the issue is deeply troubling.
This trend is actively mocking the very foundations of education, eroding the dignity of honest labor, and redefining the fastest way to make money. It teaches the next generation that intellectual effort is a waste of time.
While we are quick to blame the government for the collapse of our institutions, the global tech companies are the actual gatekeepers and the ultimate culprits here.
Some influencers have called this phenomenon algorithm colonization, but that is a lazy excuse. This is not a targeted plot against us because it is currently affecting almost every country on earth. The only nations escaping this crisis are the selected few that strictly regulate social media and control what the algorithm feeds their youth.
Big Tech built these platforms to prioritize cheap dopamine over deep intellect, and until we recognize them as the true engine behind this shift, we are missing the real problem.
