Akara isn't a bad business. Roasting or frying corn isn't a bad business either.

The problem is that many of us now look down on honest work because everyone wants to make quick money, often without the skills, experience, or patience to earn it.

We've forgotten that these same businesses fed families, paid school fees, and sent countless Nigerians through secondary school and university. Many of our parents built their lives through work like this.

It's sad to see the reaction to what the First Lady said, especially when I'm sure many people didn't even watch the full video before forming an opinion.

Akara and corn businesses may not be for everyone, but anyone willing to put in the work can succeed in them. Honest work should never be a source of shame.
