Health & Care Worker Visa
You've been told you need a Health and Care Worker visa.
Your employer said it would cover your move to the UK.
What nobody explained is what it actually covers — and what disqualifies you immediately.
The Health and Care Worker visa is a sub-category of the Skilled Worker route. It is not a separate visa. Your employer must already hold an active sponsor licence before any visa can be issued. Without that licence, they cannot bring you in, no matter how much they want to.
The job has to qualify. Not every healthcare job falls under this route. Registered nurses, doctors, allied health professionals, and some care roles in regulated settings are typically covered. But the employer must also be an NHS body, an NHS arm's length body, or a UK care provider registered with the Care Quality Commission. If an employer does not meet that condition, this route is not available to them regardless of what they advertise.
Here is what makes this specific route valuable. The salary requirement under the Health and Care Worker route has historically been lower than the standard Skilled Worker threshold of £41,700 per year. That lower concession is backed by the Immigration Salary List.
The ISL closes in December 2026.
