One Blank Field Is Quietly Costing International Candidates More Interviews Than Anything Else On This List.
Of everything I've covered this week — interview structure, governance frameworks, audit terminology, visa thresholds — this might be the single highest-impact fix, and it takes two minutes to apply.
Most TRAC application forms ask a binary immigration question: do you currently have a visa or right to work in the UK. Most international candidates answer it honestly: no. That's correct, and it should stay correct.
But directly underneath that question sits a second field, optional in wording but not optional in impact: "if you wish to provide any additional information regarding your right to work or immigration status, please do so here." An enormous number of candidates leave it blank, treating it as genuinely optional.
Here's what that blank field actually communicates to a screener, automated or human: an applicant with no stated route to eligibility. Not an applicant who simply needs standard, routine sponsorship that Trusts handle constantly, just an unexplained "no," sitting with nothing around it.
What should go there instead, every time: your nationality and current location, a clear statement that you require Health and Care Worker visa sponsorship, a clear statement of your eligibility for that route through your professional registration, a statement of your readiness and willingness to relocate, and an invitation for the recruiting team to discuss sponsorship further.
That's it. Five sentences. The difference between an application that reads as a dead end and one that reads as a fully prepared, sponsorship-ready candidate who simply hasn't started the process yet, because nobody's offered them a Certificate of Sponsorship to start it with.
