OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL 27 JUNE 2026 COMMENTARY
MEMORISE: Isaiah 29:18
“And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.”

This verse is a prophetic promise of divine sight. Daddy Adeboye anchors today’s devotional on this text because it reveals that God specializes in opening eyes that have been closed—whether physically or spiritually. The phrase “out of obscurity and out of darkness” describes the natural state of the unseeing eye. But God says: I will bring sight out of blindness, clarity out of confusion, and revelation out of obscurity. What you cannot see today, God can reveal in an instant. What has been hidden from you, God can uncover with a single word.

BIBLE READING: Genesis 21:14-19
This passage records the story of Hagar and Ishmael after Abraham sent them away. Abraham gave Hagar bread and a bottle of water, and she departed into the wilderness of Beersheba. When the water was spent, she cast the child under a shrub and went away from him, saying, “Let me not see the death of the child.” She sat down and wept. Then God heard the voice of the lad, and an angel called to Hagar from heaven, saying, “Fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad… Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.” Then “God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water” —a well that had been there all along. She went and filled the bottle with water and gave the lad a drink. Daddy Adeboye uses this to show that the solution was present but invisible until God opened Hagar’s eyes.

Hagar’s Wilderness: A Well She Could Not See
1. The Desperate Situation
“In today’s Bible reading, as Hagar and her son, Ishmael, journeyed in the wilderness, they ran out of water to drink. The wilderness is not a place to wander in without water; hence, it did not take long before Ishmael got dehydrated and weak.”

Consider the progression of their crisis:

“He became so weak that his mother thought he would die. Knowing that there was nothing she could do to keep her son alive, she distanced herself from him and began to weep.”

Hagar did what any mother would do in hopelessness. She had no water. She had no strength. She had no plan. All she could do was weep and wait for death.

2. The Hidden Solution
“At that moment, God intervened and opened her eyes to see that the solution to her problem was right beside her. There was a well of water close to her, but she didn’t see it until God opened her eyes.”

This is the central revelation of the passage:

“How sad would it have been if she had died of thirst without knowing that the solution she was seeking was so close to her.”

The tragedy is not that the well was absent. The tragedy is that the well was present but invisible. Hagar was weeping next to water. Her child was dying next to life. The solution was not miles away—it was right beside her. But she could not see it until God opened her eyes.

“If you are currently experiencing any challenges, I pray that the Almighty God will open your eyes to see the right solutions to them, in Jesus’ name.”

The Condition of Unseeing Eyes
1. Walking in Darkness Amidst Light
“When people don’t have seeing eyes, they will walk in darkness. They may have blessings all around them, but they may still suffer because they cannot see them.”

Unseeing Eyes Experience Reality
Feel surrounded by darkness Light is present but unrecognized
Feel empty and void Blessings are all around but invisible
Feel abandoned by God God is near but unseen
Feel hopeless The solution is beside them
“Those who do not have seeing eyes are at the mercy of others. They stumble at things that shouldn’t ordinarily trip them up because they cannot see.”

Consider the dangers of spiritual blindness:

2. Darkness Brings Confusion and Emptiness (Genesis 1:2)
“Darkness brings confusion and emptiness, and this is why the earth was void and without form until God commanded light to be (Genesis 1:2).”
