The desire for overnight wealth or instant gratification causes the owner to destroy the source of their long-term prosperity. Driven by the desire for immediate reward, people fall into get-rich-quick traps. This causes them to neglect investments that yield smaller, compounding returns over time. Excessive materialism erodes ethical values, making dangerous and destructive practices seem acceptable in the pursuit of immediate wealth.
