Unity, Not Division, Is the Key to the Security of Yorubaland

There is a growing perception that the present OPC wants to be seen as the only legitimate security network in Yorubaland. This may explain why some of its members have been reluctant to support Chief Sunday Igboho and have instead taken to social media to mock him and the Iru Ekun security network.

I have also observed some Yoruba people criticizing Chief Sunday Igboho, claiming that he and the Iru Ekun men are merely "acting a movie." If that is truly their opinion, then those critics should also encourage their own people to enter the forests and "act their own movie," including those who spend their time mocking others from the comfort of their homes. If foreign soldiers were carrying out similar operations in our forests, many of the same people would be praising their courage.

While the Iru Ekun men are risking their lives in the forests confronting bandits and terrorists, one would expect every organization established to defend Yorubaland to stand with them. If OPC was truly created for the protection of the Yoruba people, it should have joined this effort wholeheartedly. Likewise, many people expected Amotekun to play a more active role in this struggle.

I also recall the words of the Aare Ona Kakanfo, who said he wrote to the government seeking permission before taking action, but that permission was denied. This raises an important question: since when has the Aare Ona Kakanfo in Yoruba history required government approval before defending Yorubaland in times of danger?

When Chief Sunday Igboho began advocating for the security of Yorubaland and the Yoruba Nation, he did not receive the united support that many expected from the Aare Ona Kakanfo and the OPC.

At this critical moment, what we can all do is ká máa ṣe ìwúre pẹ̀lú ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ẹbọ rírú fún Chief Sunday Igboho àti àwọn ọkùnrin rẹ̀, kí wọ́n lè ṣàṣeyọrí, kí wọ́n sì padà sílé láìláàfíà. (Let us continue to pray and make sincere spiritual supplications for Chief Sunday Igboho and his men, so that they may succeed and return home safely.)

This is also the time for Babalawos across Yorubaland, devotees of Olódùmarè, and all those who are spiritually empowered to unite in prayer and support for those risking their lives for the safety of the land. I equally expect our traditional rulers—the Obas who genuinely desire peace and security in Yorubaland—to lend their voices and support to every sincere effort aimed at protecting our people.

The security of Yorubaland should never become a contest of personalities or organizations. It requires unity, cooperation, and a shared commitment to the welfare of our people.
